INSPIRED BuY...zac posen for target

oh my g. this line for target is one of the best yet. the quality, fit, style, similary to the designer's regular line...ahhh...i'm a little too obsessed...

it hit stores today (april 25th), and of course i slept at my parents' so i could borrow the car to complete my target mission. i ended up going to 2 targets (clifton and jersey city) to find everything that i wanted!

INSPIRED BuY...fleet week

my friend kelly has been dying to visit the intrepid, so i was thinking- what better time than fleet week?! all the sailors will be in town and ready to party, so maybe we'll get a fun night out of the visit as well!

INSPIRED BuY...cupcakes

there are SO many cupcake places around, but my favorite is sweet in hoboken. the cake is moist and the flavors are delicious, plus they look so darn fun and cute. the people who work there are super nice, which is another reason why its a wonderful place to chill and grab dessert. sweet's cute-sy cupcakes were the inpiration for wearing my ruffle-y, pink dress.

INSPIRED BuY...salt and pepper

salt and pepper are essential condiments in many meals. black and white are essential colors in any wardrobe. (ok yea maybe i'm stretching the comparison a bit, but i just wanted to wear this outfit! can't blame a girl for that...). sometimes wearing a black skirt and a white shirt can look waitress-y, but for some reason switching it up and wearing white on the bottom and black on top gives this color combo a fresh and pulled together look.

Thursday

INSPIRED BuY...summer music festivals

its just about summer music festival season...

i wonder what will be the god-awfully-ugly-but-must-have hybrid sandal of the season. we've seen crocs and keens both make a grand appearance. perhaps it will be those crazy shoes that are like gloves this year...

i digress...about 7 years ago, i couldn't get enough tie dye...i've since stepped away from that, but i just couldn't resist this subtly tie-dyed loomstate (organic, silk) dress (which i bought on ruelala). it's so flowy and cozy and would be the perfect concert-going dress.

Tuesday

INSPIRED BuY...mint juleps

i was thinking this morning about how the kentucky derby is coming up soon (first week in may, i believe) and mint juleps are pretty much the official drink of this event. the kentucky derby is a very preppy event. mint green + preppiness is where this outfit came from.

the colors are all fairly muted which is a big trend this spring. the outfit would have been better if the pants were slimmer and perhaps cuffed or cropped.

Wednesday

INSPIRED BuY...audrey hepburn

no one does classic-chic like audrey hepburn. you can't go wrong with a sleeveless black dress paired with a statement necklace. this pairing is easy to transform for any setting:
casual/day- add a denim jacket (in a light wash)
work- add a blazer (white or black with 1 or 2 buttons works best)
formal/night- add strappy heels

dress- gap
necklace- anthropologie

INSPIRED BuY...pleasantville

remember that film with toby maguire and reese witherspoon? it begins in black and white but makes a transformation into full color by the end...

it takes place in the 1950s and the transition from black and white to color reminds me of the transition from winter to spring. look around and you'll see some people wearing tights and dark colors and others who have made the change to flip flops and colorful sundresses; in nature, you'll see some naked trees and others in full bloom.

this dress is very 50's, and it's clear that i'm ready for spring (the 85 degree weather today helped). florals in general and mixing florals with harder pieces are trends that continue from spring 09. we've seen this on the spring 2010 runway from dolce and gabbana, rebecca taylor, ralph lauren and many others

Tuesday

INSPIRED BuY...meh-hee-ko (mexico)

the warm weather makes me crave outdoor seating at mexican restaurants with sugary cocktails. probably not the best thing to crave when bikini season is right around the corner, but i just can't help myself!

went to charrito's in downtown hoboken tonight. homemade guac = heaven. anyway, the decor inside is super colorful and funky which was my inspiration for this outfit

jeans- gap "always skinny"

INSPIRED BuY...spring sports

it's spring which means golf is starting up, college basketball is ending, baseball is beginning... (i'm sure i've missed some others) but basically it's all about sports right now

so i thought i'd dress a little sporty today

this sporty-chic look has been popping up in the fashion world. hermes, bottega veneta, and alexander wang are big contributors to this trend

spandex tank- limited
sweatshirt skirt- h&m (london)

Monday

INSPIRED BuY...egg (restaurant in brooklyn)

a few months back I had a lovely brunch at egg in williamsburg, brooklyn.
delicious food, french-press coffee, great friends.
we were given crayons for transforming the tablecloth into our own masterpiece, which is always fun
our waitress was wearing one of the best denim-on-denim combos i've seen, so i decided to copy it

(sidenote- if you're looking for outfit/fashion inspiration, visit williamsburg and take a look around)
